On September 19, 1861
started the construction of
the Iller Valley Railway
from Neu-Ulm to
Kempten. The owner of
railway was the Neu-Ulm
- Kempten Railway. During
the construction floods came
in February 1862 in
Gerlenhofen and the
construction delays, as some dams were
broken. On 18 July 1862, the tracks were laid
to Memmingen. On August 4, 1862, the first
test drive took place with the Locomotive
"Vesta" to Illertissen. On 11 October 1862,
the section of Ulm was officially opened to
Memmingen. At this time, the Railway Station was also completed and festively
decorated. For the removal of long timber the Iller Valley Railway was until the
First World War an important freight route. The station building is still preserved in
essential parts.
The railroad "came" on October 11,
1862 to Illertissen. So 27 years after
the opening of the first railway from
Nuremberg to Fürth 1835. Illertissen at
that time had 1,400 inhabitants (end of 2013
there were 16,775 inhabitants).
